Initially BMW did not intend the breather valve to be a replacement part and the only way to repair a faulty one was to replace the entire valve cover assembly. Save money by replacing the breather valve itself, not the complete rocker cover. If the engine breather valve is faulty it may cause your car's engine to run rough. The breather valve purges oil vapour from the rocker cover of the engine. Enclosed in the breather valve housing is the oil separator, the oil separator stops oil and allows oil vapours to be released. Engine breather valves can fail due to the internal diaphragm splitting.
